School of Medicine || The Curriculum

Foundation Year = 1Year

The Foundation Year curriculum in the School of Medicine conforms to the European Credit Transfer System (ECTS). The total accumulated credits for the year is 60, divided into two semesters of 30 credits each
The first semester is composed of five single (5 credits each) and two half modules (2.5 credits each). They include three introductory science modules covering Medical Physics, Medicinal & Pharmaceutical Chemistry and Human Biology; a module on Human Systems 1 which integrates the three sciences in understanding of the musculoskeletal and digestive systems; a module on Information and Communications in Healthcare; and two half modules, Biomedical Laboratory Sciences 1 and Language/Written & Communication Skills 1

The second semester comprises four single (5 credits each) and four half modules
(2.5 credits each). They include a module on Chemical Processes involved in Biological Systems; three modules which continue the study of organ systems, Human Systems 2, 3 and 4; and four half modules covering Biomedical Laboratory Sciences 2, Language/Written & Communication Skills 2, and two separate electives

The Foundation year is followed by a five year medical programme which is
semesterised and modularised in three cycles

Junior Cycle = 1 and half years
Starting the 1st semester of the first medical year, the Junior Cycle comprises 18 modules delivered over three semesters with two longitudinal themes: Health, Behaviour & Society and Clinical Competencies.

a) First Semester

o Concepts and Principles in Biomedicine
o Alimentary System
o Haematopoietic and Immune Systems
o Health, Behaviour and Society 1
o Clinical Competencies

b) Second Semester
o Cardio-respiratory and Upper Limb (‘double’ or 10-credit module
o Genitourinary and Endocrine
o Molecular Medicine
o Health, Behaviour and Society 2
o Clinical Competencies

c) Third Semester
o Neuroscience (‘double’ or 10-credit module
o Evidence Based Health
o Population and International Health
o Early Patient Contact
o Clinical Competencies

Intermediate Cycle= 1 and half years

In the Intermediate Cycle, which follows the Junior Cycle, 18 modules are delivered over three semesters

a) First Semester
o Biology & Epidemiology of Disease
o GI & Hepatology I & II (‘double’ or 10-credit module
o Cardio-respiratory I, II & III (‘triple’ or 15-credit module
o Health, Disease and Society

b) Second Semester
o Central Nervous System, Locomotor & Movement (‘double’ or 10-credit module
o Haemato-lymphoid, Tropical Medicine (‘double’ or 10-credit module
o Renal, Endocrine, Genitourinary, Breast (‘double’ or 10-credit module
o Health, Disease and Society – includes public health, medical ethics and forensic medicine

c) Third Semester
A 16 week semester comprising of a student selected component, Medicine/ Surgery Clinical Skills Programme, Musculoskeletal Programme and Clinical Team Attachments. Student selected components are an increasingly important part of all courses and include project work, research or clinical electives, which promote the development of special interests and introduce students to the diversity of global healthcare systems

Senior Cycle = 2 years

The Senior Cycle follows the Intermediate Cycle for the period of four semesters which are the last in the medical programme. The Senior Cycle is in a developmental phase with full implementation during the coming year

6. English : للطلبة الذين لم يحصلوا على درجة 6.5 فأكثر في IELTS
7. تاريخ البحرين بالإنجليزي
8. اللغة العربية

الدورة الأولى : تتكون من ثلاثة فصول = سنة ونصف

الفصل الأول: 6 مواد:-
1) الجهاز العصبي والعضلي
2) مفاهيم ومبادئ في الكيمياء الحيوية
3) الجهاز الهضمي
4) الجهاز المناعي
5) الصحة، والعادات، والمجتمع
6) الكفاءة الصحية (1)

الفصل الثاني ( خمس مواد الأولى منها مادة مضاعفة)
1) الجهاز التنفسي والأطراف العليا ( مادة مضاعفة )
2) الجهاز التناسلي والبولي
3) الطب الجزيئي
4) الصحة، والعادات، والمجتمع
5) الكفاءة الصحية (2)

الفصل الثالث:
1) العلوم العصبية (مادة مضاعفة)
2) الطب المعتمد على الأدلة
3) الصحة السكانية والعالمية
4) بداية التواصل مع المريض
5) الكفاءة الصحية (3)
